Brand identity and design for growing businesses

Translating your vision into visuals – with design to get you noticed

A fresh approach to your branding

There may be several reasons why you’re looking at your visual communications and deciding for a design refresh.

Often, it’s due to company expansion – for example, if you’re offering a new product or service and are unsure how this fits with your existing brand. Or you could be seeking investment and want to show your potential investors that you’re a serious commercial opportunity.

Even if your visual identity doesn’t need a complete overhaul, updating your marketing and sales material can energise your sales team and entice new customers.

How the process works

Discover

I get to know your business, your values, your competitors, your future plans. It’s no good building a brand for now, I want to build a brand that will evolve as you do. If you have an existing visual identity, we’ll discuss what you think is or isn’t working, how your customers and staff perceive your brand and where your business opportunities and challenges lie.

Build

As with any build, I start with the foundations – logo versions, colour palette, typography, image style and iconography. These are supported by the fundamental pillars – logos that work no matter the size or application, a flexible colour palette that’s aligned across print and digital, fonts that are universal and without costly licences, image options that are engaging, adaptable and cost-effective.

Review

I look through all your current material, such as your website, marketing comms and event material. Is there a defined brand look? Is it consistent? Is it professional? Is it visually reinforcing your company values and message? Is there a clear hierarchy and flow in the structure and layout? Are your messages and call to action obvious? Is there anything missing? Can it be simplified?

Visualise

I provide full visuals to show how each design option would look across your material, including marketing and sales collateral, internal comms, social media and website. Seeing the whole suite together provides you with a clearer idea of design in practice. Even if you’re not looking to update all your materials in one go, a full set of visuals can show you the potential direction of travel.

“I appreciate your willingness to learn about our product, company and culture, your impeccable artistic eye, and your ability to transform rough concepts into art. Your knowledge of today’s most popular applications and platforms saved us time and money when implementing the website redesign and the presentations and other marketing templates you created will ensure our branding remains consistent.”

Frequently asked questions

What happens when we start to work together?

First, we have a chat about your brief and timeline, then I send you a detailed estimate of design fees. Next, I put myself in your customer’s shoes and get to know you, your market, competitors and vision. At the next stage I show you design concepts, and we agree the direction your project will take. Naturally, I’m available throughout the process for all your questions.

What if we need other services as well as a graphic designer?

That’s fine. I have a network of trusted contacts in aligned services like marketing, copywriting, photography and digital.

Can you handle everything during the design project?

Yes, everything right through to delivery. I can support you every step of the way, from concept design through to production and fulfilment.

How does the design fee work?

At the start of the project, you’ll get a detailed estimate including scope and agreed deliverables. If we’ve not worked together before I charge 30-50% upfront to be paid before the project commences. Then I’ll invoice after every agreed stage and/or at the end of the project.
